Watford in the 20th Century, Vol 1 - includes standard UK first-class postage

This 180-page publication is a fascinating insight into the lives of those living in Watford, Bushey, Radlett, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Kings Langley, Abbots Langley and the surrounding towns and villages at that time, a must for all those interested in south west Hertfordshire.

MORE than 10 years ago the Watford Observer produced a series of historical supplements that looked at life in south west Hertfordshire in the decades that made up the 20th Century.

They were written by our former assistant editor and sports editor Oliver Phillips, with a great deal of assistance from other people, both at the newspaper and in the community. The supplements produced bumper sales of the Watford Observer because of their popularity and their completion was a matter of great satisfaction to me and the other journalists involved.

A few yellowing, well-thumbed copies were kept under lock and key - until the autumn of last year. Since then, a small team has been working on bringing the content to life again in a new high quality format that is a cross between a book and a magazine. Now, the first volume, which looks at the years from 1900 to 1939, is available again.

This 180-page publication, priced at 9.99, will be a must for all those interested in south west Hertfordshire.

It will become an important record of how the area developed during the first four decades of the 20th Century. It is a fascinating insight into the lives of those living in Watford, Bushey, Radlett, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Kings Langley, Abbots Langley and the surrounding towns and villages at that time.

Even if you are not interested in the history of this area, you may know someone who is. 'Watford in the 20th Century' would make an excellent gift!
